EPD - Electronic Paper Displays

Energy-efficient display technology, robust construction, and excellent readability in sunlight.

The electrophoretic displays, featuring the unique and innovative technology patented by E Ink, are ideal for operation in power-critical systems and are increasingly favored for use in space-saving designs. Their bistable properties provide high-contrast visualizations without any power consumption; only the image change requires electricity. Due to the reflective nature of the technology used, the display content remains sharp and highly readable even in bright sunlight. The displays offer excellent readability in outdoor environments with high brightness as well as in situations with very low ambient light, similar to traditional print media. Made primarily from polyamide, the materials used in these displays and modules ensure exceptional robustness and shock resistance. Unlike conventional LCD displays with glass substrates, passive segmented variants made entirely from plastics pose no risk of breakage, especially in installations with curved cover lenses, where the display can be adapted to the curvature seamlessly. We also offer AM displays with resolutions of up to 220 DPI on plastic substrates.

Applications:

  • Smart Home Controls
  • Medical Products
  • Logistics Labeling
  • Commerce & Stores (ESL)
  • Outdoor Applications (Smart City, Digital Timetable Displays)
  • Wearables & IoT

Segment Displays - Customized to Your Requirements

With the help of in-house design and development capabilities and based on our extensive experience gained from numerous custom designs, we deliver application-specific segment displays tailored to individual customer requirements within a few weeks. The unique features of this system architecture allow integration into various product areas such as smart labels, logistic tags, power tools, wearables, and room controls. Increasingly, more application fields are leveraging the advantages of E Ink® technology: electronics & business (E&B), medical technology, automation, IoT, and security technology are just a few of the designated sectors where this technology is already in use.

EPD Frontlight Solutions - the right illumination for your product

In order for the reflective display elements to be readable even in complete darkness, it is necessary for the light from the laterally guided light source to be directed onto the display from above and uniformly reflected across the display surface.

Backlighting is not possible with E-paper displays.

To ensure your application displays a uniformly illuminated image, a microscopic and homogeneously laid out nanostructure is required. This ensures the displayed image remains clear and flawless in contrast and color for the viewer's eye.

The construction sizes range from 0.2 to 2.0 mm depending on requirements.

This function can also be implemented in the cover lens.

Color - The Highend Solution of EPD's

ADVANCED COLOR ELECTRONIC PAPER DISPLAYS | ACEP™

ACeP™ achieves a color palette of 32k colors through an optimal mixture of the three primary colors: yellow, magenta red, and cyan blue. The color-producing structure of the display consists of a single layer of electrophoretic highly sensitive polymers, which are supplied with the corresponding voltages via the TFT backplane. The colored particles are embedded in either microcapsule or Microcup® structures. The richness of colors is achieved by having all color pigments present in each picture element (pixel), rather than being arranged side by side. This technology also eliminates the need for any color filters, allowing the full color spectrum of the pigments to be fully available. Accordingly, ACeP™ maintains the extremely power-efficient and paper-like readability of regular E Ink ePaper.

EINK | SPECTRA 3100 ™

E Ink Spectra is an E Ink® polymer with a multi-pigment ink. This system is primarily used in ESL solutions (electronic shelf labels) for retail and electronic shelf tags. EPDs with Spectra offer the same high-contrast and energy-efficient features as all our other E Ink® display solutions – now with an additional color. The latest generation of Spectra, E Ink Spectra™ 3100, features black, white, red, and yellow pigments to meet enhanced requirements for signal, warning, and contrast colors.
